Backstage

An open-source developer portal by Spotify that Naftiko integrates with for capability scaffolding, catalog registration, and governance scorecards.

What is Backstage?

Backstage is an open-source developer portal originally created by Spotify and now a CNCF project. It provides a centralized platform for managing software components, documentation, and developer workflows through a pluggable catalog and template system.

Backstage in Naftiko

Naftiko integrates with Backstage through a dedicated plugin that provides:

  • Capability scaffolding – Templates that generate spec-compliant capability stubs from Backstage’s software templates.
  • Auto-catalog registration – Capabilities deployed via CRDs or Git are automatically registered in the Backstage catalog.
  • Governance scorecards – Dashboards that track capability health across cost, risk, and velocity dimensions.
  • Fleet explorer – Visualization of the capability fleet with dependency mapping and impact tracing.
  • Duplicate detection – Identification of overlapping capabilities to prevent redundant development.

Why it matters

Backstage is where many enterprise teams already discover and manage software components. By integrating Naftiko capabilities into Backstage, teams find capabilities where they already make decisions – reducing friction and increasing reuse.
