How the Naftiko Pre-Seed Came Together

Naftiko has closed its pre-seed round.

Serena leads. The institutional syndicate fills in around them with Afrimobility (the corporate investment arm of Akwa Group, one of North Africa’s largest industrial groups) and Inovexus (a founder-led SPV mobilized around the enterprise-software operator community, with cross-border GTM reach across Europe and the U.S. enterprise corridor). A tight slate of operator-angels rounds it out: Paul Melchiorre (ex-Anaplan, ex-Ariba), Pawan Deshpande (founder of Curata), Vincent Mace, Andreas Gall, and David Fischer (ex-Facebook). The third and final tranche signed on May 18, 2026.

Total capital raised, including the Bpifrance R&D loan now in transit, is $2.8M. A complementary BNP loan is in active diligence — if approved, that lifts the total to $3M.

This is the post where I explain how that came together and what it funds.

Why This Round, Why Now

Enterprises are entering the AI era carrying an average of 1,295 SaaS applications and more than 14,000 internal APIs. That surface area has only grown with the 2025–2026 wave of MCPs, copilots, and agents. The result is escalating duplication, ungoverned security exposure, and AI pilots that do not survive contact with production.

Naftiko’s bet is that the unit of abstraction over that sprawl is the capability — declared once in a spec, executed deterministically, governed by policy, and consumed by both humans and machines. Everything we are building — the open-source Fleet, the Signals intelligence layer, the design-partner motion — sits on top of that bet.

The capital from this round, paired with the Bpifrance loan and the pending BNP facility, funds three priorities through Beta 1 (end of June 2026) and General Availability (September 2026):

  1. Shipping the open-source Fleet. Shipyard, Ikanos, Polychro, Crafter, Warden, and Skipper. All six are currently at v1.0.0-alpha3, with Alpha 4 mid-June and Beta 1 at end of June. The commitment that Ikanos and Polychro stay 100% Apache 2.0 in every edition of the Fleet is what this round funds.
  2. Building out the Paris and U.S. teams. Paris is the engineering and product center of gravity. The U.S. operating presence anchors the enterprise design-partner motion already in flight with companies including JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Ford, and Vanguard — and with the 60+ APIDays NYC prospect cohort entering the funnel.
  3. Scaling Naftiko Signals. With Fortune 1000 coverage now substantially complete and the corpus crossing 884 new company signals pages this past week, the round funds the continued build-out of the open-intelligence layer — role-aware “What’s Next” capabilities, the Naftiko Radar, and the market-data-partner packaging direction surfaced by recent investor and partner feedback.

A Lead Investor With a European Enterprise Thesis

Serena leads the round, and Serena’s posture is what allowed the rest of the syndicate to close. Paris-headquartered. One of Europe’s most active enterprise-software investors. A portfolio and operator network that align directly with Naftiko’s thesis: a European-built, open-source-first platform purpose-built for the governance problems that follow AI adoption inside large enterprises.

I have spent a lot of pre-seed conversations explaining why “European-built, open-source-first” is not a constraint but a posture. Serena did not need that explanation. The first conversation we had landed on the same frame I had been carrying — and the follow-up conversations were about how to execute against it, not whether the frame was right.

The Operator-Angel Slate

The angel checks are smaller than the institutional commitments, but the collective signal — and the doors they have already opened inside large enterprises — is structurally important to Naftiko’s GTM.

  • Paul Melchiorre — one of the most credentialed voices on enterprise software sales in the U.S. market. Paul is also helping shape Naftiko’s design-partner funnel and seed-funding strategy through a founding-team workshop on June 3, 2026 — the first time we will workshop both ends of the GTM and capital strategy end-to-end with an operator at his altitude.
  • Pawan Deshpande — founder of Curata, with pattern recognition on category creation inside large enterprises.
  • Vincent Mace — deep enterprise relationships across the U.S. and France, sitting at the intersection of Naftiko’s two home markets.
  • Andreas Gall — long-time European media and technology operator with leadership tenure across the German-speaking enterprise market.
  • David Fischer — veteran enterprise marketing leader, bringing a buyer-side perspective on how AI-era capabilities are evaluated and adopted.

The French Public-Innovation Ecosystem

Alongside the equity round, Naftiko has secured material support from the French public-innovation apparatus that operates around early-stage deep-tech companies headquartered in Paris. The Bpifrance R&D loan is signed and in transit. The complementary BNP facility is in diligence. The Jeune Entreprise Innovante fiscal rescrit is with its dedicated partner. Key-person insurance quotes from BNP and CARDIF are advancing. BSPCE / BSA allocations are running in parallel.

None of this changes the equity story. All of it changes the operating runway. Non-dilutive capital matched to open-source engineering is the right shape for a company committed to keeping Ikanos and Polychro under Apache 2.0 forever.

Geography and Operating Posture

Naftiko operates from Paris and New York City. The Paris team holds the engineering and product center of gravity. The U.S. presence anchors the enterprise GTM motion. The investor mix in this round mirrors that posture deliberately — a European lead, European institutional capital, a U.S.-anchored operator-angel slate, French public-innovation financing.

What Comes Next

  • Alpha 4 (mid-June 2026) — MCP trust propagation, API-gateway integration, and the first A2A server adapter.
  • Beta 1 (end of June 2026) — Stable MVP across the Fleet.
  • General Availability (September 2026) — Production-ready v1.0 across the Fleet, with the JSON Schema published to JSON Schema Store.
  • Paul Melchiorre + Naftiko founding-team workshop (June 3, 2026) — Enterprise design-partner funnel and seed-funding strategy worked through end-to-end.

To every investor who said yes, to every advisor who carried a warm intro across the syndicate, to the design partners who let us workshop the capability layer against their real production constraints, and to the open-source contributors who have already engaged the Fleet at alpha3 — thank you. The build that funds is the work I am most looking forward to.
